I care about people who find themselves homeless. My father was in The Forces and when he retired from the Army he wanted to live in Henley-on-Thames. He applied for a council house but the council were reluctant to give him one because he had been out of the country for many years. The Army were struggling to help us find a home, so we had to be declared 'Homeless' and be threatened with eviction from the Army property we were living in. Eventually the council realised they had to house us and gave us a property in Henley-on-Thames.
I hear that lots of homeless people were in The Forces so I am keen to raise money so some of them receive help that they need.
I'll be sleeping out for Wycombe Homeless Connection on 20th November to experience something of what it means to sleep rough. WHC provides emergency help to those on the street, but then mainly aims to help people rebuild their lives long-term. The charity is over 90% voluntary funded and makes all donations go a long way by harnessing an army of volunteers! Please sponsor me!
