FFI: The Environmental Committee (An Coiste Glas)
My name is Olivia Foley. I’m a second level student in Limerick, Ireland. In April 2022, I travelled to Durham, New Hampshire to participate in Friends Forever International’s youth immersion programme. As part of this course, I now have to complete a social action project in my locality targeting a problem my community faces. Throughout the covid 19 pandemic, my school’s focus was concentrated on online education. There was no attention on any extra curricular activities or clubs, as it was almost impossible to continue them safely. As a result all of the clubs and committees were discontinued. However, now that we are back at school, it is important to regain that focus - especially in the environmental committee. Over the last few years, news of climate action was lost with the uproar of the covid 19 pandemic. Similarly, in my school, there was a lack of emphasis on climate action. My proposed solution to this problem is to re-establish my school's environmental committee. Through this committee, I hope to plan a myriad of different projects including a park clean-up, a school garden and litter picking at local sporting events. We also hope to get involved in initiatives such as Fair Trade and Green Schools Ireland. By donating to this fundraiser you will not only be funding the aforementioned projects, but helping my local community to build a cleaner, more environmentally focused environment.
