Most of my life I have hated running. Never have I thought it could be possible for me to complete a half marathon. Over the last year or so, however, I have discovered the immense benefits of running (and any other exercise but largely running). I struggle with anxiety and depression and some days, some weeks, sometimes even some months are really very difficult for me to navigate. I am really lucky because I am being supported by friends, loved ones and in work which has allowed me to remain ambitious despite my difficulties. Lately, being able to exercise and run with my friends has contributed to this a great deal as well. This year I have decided to attempt the Cardiff Half Marathon. And I want to use the opportunity to raise funds for the wonderful charity SVC. SVC run a number of projects that encourage community inclusion, a great number of which support disadvantaged individuals including those experiencing ill mental health to socialise. I know how much of a difference connectedness and a supportive social network can make, and SVC work hard to provide just that for the people they support and the volunteers alike. With this as an inspiration I hope I can keep up with my efforts to train and actually finish a half marathon despite how terrifying it is at the moment! If you agree with me on this worthwhile cause, please help me to stay motivated and to raise some funds for the fantastic projects SVC run.
