Since 10 May, Council staff have been taking part in ‘Every Kilometre Counts’, a challenge to collectively reach 10,000km through exercise by 10 July. We're very excited to say we have now met and surpassed our target by running, cycling and walking over 10,000km! As part of this challenge, we are also aiming to raise £5,000 for Wiltshire Community Foundation's Wiltshire and Swindon Coronavirus Response Appeal.
Now we are encouraging residents to get active, set their own challenges and donate to the appeal.
The Wiltshire and Swindon Coronavirus Response Fund has already provided over £425,000 of grants to local community groups who are providing immediate relief to some of the county’s most vulnerable people. Grants are also helping local community groups to stay afloat at a time when they are facing severe financial challenges themselves, due to loss of fundraised income and increased need for their support. Without these community groups, many of our most vulnerable local people would be left without the support they desperately need.
We want to come together as a community, to raise money for an incredible cause but to also experience the benefits exercise can have on our physical and mental health. We all need a little motivation now and then, so during this time, when people need support more than ever, why not join the challenge, see the benefits exercise can bring and raise money for an incredible cause.
