Sunday 17th July I completed a tandem sky dive from 13,000 ft. There is still time to donate - no amount is too small. This is my story .... I started working at The Collett School Special Educational Needs, Hemel Hempstead in January 2016. The pupils who attend The Collett School have a variety of medical and learning difficulties, ranging from Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other physical disabilities. Some pupils have more than one difficulty which can mean that accessing main stream schools is not an option for them. The main focus of the school is not academic but for all their pupils to care for themselves, be a valued member of society and to work (paid or voluntary). Academic subjects are taught and a number of pupils take GCSEs and other exams each year, many leaving The Collett School to attend college. The drive and passion, patience and understanding that all the staff have for the pupils is amazing. I have been surprised to learn that this is the lowest funded special school in Hertfordshire. The equipment and facilities that the pupils would benefit from costs thousands of pounds. I have decided to put my body where my mouth is and take part in a tandem Skydive, in July, to raise some much needed funds. My minimum target is £500 but I would love to double that. I am 45 years old, never done anything like this before and have a genuine fear of heights which means I cannot even look out of a window above the second floor or use glass lifts. So jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet and free falling at 120mph (1,000 ft every five seconds) until 5,000 ft when the parachute is pulled and then landing back on safe ground four minutes later is not going to be easy for me. Please sponsor me, no amount is too small.
