Hope you are all well and looking forward to the return of sun and longer days.
Im raising money for Edventure Frome's latest initiative, as part of their 10 week Start-Up course happening this spring.
Edventure is an award winning school for Community Enterprise, that is focused on tackling Environmental and Ecological issues. You can find out more at https://edventurefrome.org/.
Our initiative is a new community composting business, that will provide nutrient-dense compost to be used by the people of Frome.
We aim to tackle the issue of food waste and soil fertility, by developing a commercial collection and composting system. This will also assist people in growing their own food, and contribute to Frome's goals of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
Although government initiatives around food waste have improved in recent years, much still enters landfill, releasing methane, contributing significantly to the climate crisis. What is composted, often becomes low quality, nutrient deficient compost.
The issue of soil fertility is of major concern to ecological stability and food supply. With current agricultural practices we have less than 60 years of farmable soil left on Earth!
Our initiative will create a new effective composting system, producing a fertile living compost. Through this, increasing Frome's independence, self-sufficiency, and sustainability.
I will be setting myself the challenge of a 5-day water only fast. I have previous experience with fasting and have done research around the topic. I may supplement with coconut water, depending on how my body feels, but will use plain spring water as much as possible. I will complete this challenge from April 12th-16th.
We are working in partnership with 'Compost for Frome', with over a dozen local businesses having already expressed interest.
100% of the proceeds will go towards kick-starting this new and innovative vision for Frome's food waste.
