There are many empty churches preserved by the Church Conservation Trust and other bodies, we have been exploring some of these and thinking about these empty spaces as spaces that could be filled with new music, poetry and creative interventions on a temporary basis. Making work in response to these places will give the group the opportunity to explore the nature of community, what draws us together, what supports our relationships in the changing world around us, what supports our wellbeing.
Why they need our serviceMany members of the group have found that singing enhances wellbeing and that being in places that were once places of community and spirituality has a beneficial affect on peace of mind. People are becoming increasingly dependent on virtual rather than actual contact with people and places. Work, unemployment, illness or retirement tend to keep people indoors and sometimes it's hard to break to cycle of "I'll do it tomorrow", finding a voice through music will further enhance wellbeing.
Plan and expected resultsThe creation of new work to be shared via song, making music, writing, exploring the poetry of place to develop different forms of physical / mental exercise. Through creative & mental stimulus in a series of structured visual / musical / writing activities health and wellbeing, life changes and joyful circumstances will be explored supporting health and wellbeing. The creative activities will also help them people engage with their surroundings, seeing the environment in new and positive ways.
