I am a Registered Osteopath working for the Neuromuscular Centre West Midlands here we provide treatment for clients suffering from different forms of Muscular Dystroiphy which affects the Muscular system in a way that creates a chronic reduction in movement of all limbs , and mobility grossly affecting quality of life and also mortality as a result . Each different presentation of Muscular Dystrophy creates great challenges to daily living and are mostly incurable . The work we do at the Neuromuscular Centre makes great contribution to reducating the weakening neromuscular system and also helps to alleviate some of the obvious strains that arise. In addition general support and advice concerning local and National Services is also a great part of the work that we do within the field of a disease process which is incurable .
My role is as therapist however I am also a father of a sufferer of this type of disease , my son has Beckers Muscular Dystrophy which currentl affects his mobility and at time it is neccessary for him to be chair bound as he can only mobilise over small distances . It is very difficult for him and for me to be part of an organisation where he can recieve help is a great comfort and support for me personally . I hope over the next few years he may be able to benefit fully from the services available currently and those that may be further available as we continue to grow as a Charity.
