Did you know…? Young people experience the highest rates of Domestic abuse than any other age group. Looking at the statistics of adults that experience Domestic Abuse, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience this form of abuse. We all know more than 4 women and 6 men, therefore, someone YOU know is experiencing Domestic Abuse or has within an intimate relationship. • One in two young women have experienced controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship• A third of young people said that how a controlling partner had treated them prevented them living their life• 1 in 3 say they find it difficult to define the line between a caring action and a controlling one• Over a third (37%) would not know where or who to turn to for support if they were experiencing the issueRefuge 2017
My name is Hannah and I work for Splitz support service as a young person’s Independent Domestic Abuse Advisor. As a charity, we provide support for victims of domestic abuse. My role as a Young Person’s IDVA is to provide support to young people who have or are experiencing high risk Domestic Abuse. Within my role, I provide support around risk assessment and safety planning. I also provide education around Domestic Abuse, allowing Young people to identify what is healthy or unhealthy in a relationship, looking out for those early warning signs when entering a new relationship, consensual sex, boundaries within a relationship and the impact Domestic abuse can have on children. Even in this current era, people are still so shocked to discover that Young people are to, experiencing Domestic Abuse within their intimate relationships. It is no wonder that this has beendescribed as the ‘Hidden’ group of abuse. It is my passion to raise awareness for our young people and raise money so that services like mine have the resources to reach out and support more Young people.
