Gareth John, Commercial Manager at Waterstone Homes, part of the Jehu Group is taking on a gruelling challenge he will be running 50km around the Brecon Beacons in aid of Carers Trust Wales, which includes; summiting Fan-Y-Big and Pen-Y-Fan.
About the Charity:
Carers Trust Wales believes in a world where the role and contribution of unpaid carers is recognised and they have access to the quality support and services they need to live their own lives. For example many young carers can find it hard to go to school/college/university or keep up with course work. They can be bullied and find it difficult to make or keep friends. They can take on responsibilities well beyond their years and have little time for play or socialising or to be children or young people. Carers Trust Wales have produced free bilingual toolkit for teachers to ensure young carers are getting the additional support they need. Below is a quote from a young carer, this is just one example of their work which helps carers of all ages. ‘I look after my brother and it is tiring, but I try my best to look after him. I like that I get support from teachers. Since joining (school) I have really enjoyed being part of this group that meets at dinner time to talk about different things and it helps a lot.’
Carers Trust Wales is a leading national charity committed to improving support, services and recognition for Wales' 370,000 carers.
Wales has the highest proportion of carers in the UK.
