Gendered Intelligence is a UK-based charity supporting trans young people through a mix of online and in-person youth groups. As a trans young person myself, their support has been invaluable.
The current UK political climate is incredibly difficult for trans people, especially for trans youth. Finding spaces where we are simply seen as human, not as a debate or a headline, but just as young people trying to live our lives like anyone else, is rare. Gendered Intelligence is that space.
Through GI, I’ve had so many wonderful experiences. I’ve made friends, something that, as a home-educated, queer, and autistic person, can sometimes be a challenge. I’ve also been on some amazing trips, including to the Museum of Transology, which was fascinating and something I wouldn’t have done if not for GI. I went to my first-ever Pride event with Gendered Intelligence, and it was incredibly empowering to share that moment with the friends I’ve made there.
GI has helped me explore parts of myself I might never have discovered otherwise. They’ve given me a sense of community and belonging, something that’s truly life-changing at a time when being trans can feel so isolating.
Gendered Intelligence is a lifeline. In a time when trans people are so often debated or dehumanised, and when healthcare is increasingly difficult to access, the social support, advice, and friendships found through GI are more vital than ever.
