For one night only...on 27th June...the fabulous Glee Club are repeating our recent Country & Western gig, but this time in aid of The Collett School in Hemel Hempstead.
I have been asked to set up this page by friends who either cannot come to the concert or are just too polite to say they'd rather pay me than hear me sing!!!
I have spent some time at this school recently with some of the children, the amazing Head and their fundraising manager, and I cannot tell you how much this school and the vision they have has had such a massive impact on me.
I've been involved in plenty of Glee gigs - raising money for varying charities such as Peace Hospice, St Francis Hospice, Age UK etc etc etc - but this one is different. I can't explain it, I cant rationalise it....you have to visit this school, and feel the magical effect it has...
For those who don't know, the Collett school is unique and is the only school in Hertfordshire specifically for children aged 4-16 (and now post-16) with Learning Difficulties.
The children require significant adult support to make progress in learning as a result of the cognitive and social challenges that they face. Its a tiny school with 120 children, nearly half of whom are all under Great Ormond Street. Every single child has a statement of special educational needs, however they cannot cope in mainstream schools.
The vision that the new Head and Fundraising manager have (they've only been there for 3 years) is the requirement for bespoke education and learning spaces that SHOULD become the standard and the 'norm'. These children cannot learn in a mainstream way, so why should they have to?
I could go on and on and on... all I am asking is either PLEASE come to this one gig.....its £10 per ticket, there's a bar, so you can drink through the pain of listening to us sing...its only 3 hours (7.30-10.30), OR please donate if you are unable to come and feel you can support us.
