I am raising money for the Parallel Youth Games in June, which offers disabled teenagers the opportunity to enjoy competitive sport. Please help me raise money for this worthy cause by donating to Active Sussex through my page. My name is Jamie Lambert, I am 14 years old and I am member of the Sussex Athletics Squad. I’ve been given an incredible amount of support, from teachers and coaches, who have made me recognise the certain privileges that I have as an able bodied teenager, pursuing a passion for sport. However, at the peak of my season I suffered a hip injury, in 2014, which rendered me unable to continue competing or even training for a number of months. Despite my frustration, this period made me truly appreciate the challenges and difficulties disabled teenagers must face to participate in competitive sporting activities. At the end of March, this year, I am joining a four man Arctic expedition to southern Greenland to attempt a 100 kilometre journey from the base camp at Kulusuk, north to the Apusiaajik Glacier and the Sermiligaq Fjord, before returning via a sea ice route, within a target of seven days. We will be self-supporting, travelling on skis and on foot, and hauling sledges containing all supplies and equipment. We will be remote from settlement and standard communications, with the final distance and duration subject to both extremes of weather. To prepare for this expedition, I have been training extensively; tire pulling, trekking on the South Downs with weighted packs, and more recently, a practice trip up Kinderscout in the Peak District. This tested our understanding of equipment and helped us build our team dynamic which will be essential in Greenland's sub zero climate. All money donated will go direct to Active Sussex
