Last year I cycled Ride London (100 miles through London & Surrey) to raise funds for the wonderful charity Love Kingston. This year, I wanted to up my game with a bigger, tougher, more unusual challenge: a reverse Ironman. This is, as the name suggests, an Ironman triathlon but with the three disciplines undertaken in reverse order: 26.2-mile run, 112-mile cycle, 2.4-mile swim.
I have run marathons before. I have cycled 100+ miles. But can I do one after the other, finished off with a 2.4-mile swim? That question will be answered definitively on Sunday 4 August. The plan is to run a marathon along the dark roads of London in the early hours of the morning, then cycle to the start of Ride London (12+ miles away) and complete the 100-mile course. Finally I will cool off with a refreshing 2.4-mile swim somewhere in central London, possibly in the Serpentine. This challenge will be only my second triathlon, the first being a sprint distance earlier this year, in which I somehow managed to get lost on the run course...
Please sponsor me if you are able. Love Kingston exists to support charities and groups who really need local aid to keep going. Please visit their website to find out more about their excellent work. Any donation you can make, big or small, will make a real difference, so please do give if you can.
Wish me luck....
