Wycombe Homeless Connection is an outstanding organisation, supported by our local churches, that helps homeless people restore some normality to their lives. It isn't just about providing a winter shelter - although that is part of the work - the emphasis is very much on helping individuals rebuild their lives. A few years ago, I was completely unaware of the breadth of homelessness in Bucks living, as we do, in a rich part of the UK. I have been deeply moved by the testimonies of people who found themselves homeless and the excellent work of WHC that has helped them to develop skills to live independently and lead a more normal life.
This is the second, and last time, that I will be sleeping rough. I will always work to eradicate homelessness but I shall leave this particular type of fund raising to people with younger bones. This year, on November 20th, we are sleeping out in the parish churchyard in the centre of Wycombe and, for those of you who are familiar with the area, will know that we are in for an interesting night.
