On Friday 18th November 2016 at 1pm our lovely peer mentor Kathy will be having her head shaved to raise money for Tomorrow's Women Wirral!
In this weather?! Oh yes!
We caught up with Kathy to ask her a little about her challenge, and why on earth she's doing it!
TWW: So Kathy, why are you shaving your head this Friday?
Kathy: Tomorrow's Women are holding an Alcohol & Abuse Awareness Day on the 18th November, discussing alcohol misuse, domestic abuse and the links between these two issues. I want to highlight Domestic Abuse particularly and to raise money for a charity close to my heart, TWW.
It's also the run up to Christmas when a lot of women experience even more domestic abuse due to things like alcohol, drugs and money worries up to and during the festive period. This is about awareness and supporting people who can't speak up!
TWW: Why TWW in particular?
Kathy: I'm based at TWW as a peer mentor but before that I was a client myself, seeking domestic abuse courses.
TWW: How long have you known TWW?
Kathy: I've attended TWW for 18 months after being signposted here by the Women's Refuge. I had recently left a violent partner after 39 years of abuse, and abuse during my childhood. I'm now a peer mentor, after completing a course at TWW, mentoring and helping others with domestic abuse or otherwise.
Tomorrow's Women massively helped me and I know they can help others too.
TWW: Why should people donate?
Kathy: We need to keep this centre going. TWW is not government funded, it's funded by donations and fundraising - without funding it won't stay. But the need is great, and it seems to only be increasing. That's why people should donate!
TWW: Aren't you going to get cold in the winder?
Kathy: I'm hoping some of the funds could go towards a bobble hat haha! It's fundraising with a fun twist! Domestic violence is a serious issue, but there's no reason we can't have fun whilst we're fundraising!
