Fern Street Family centre started in 1907(!!) as Fern Street Settlement and has been working for the well-being of families in the East End of London since then. On 1st March, I'll be running the Vitality Big Half Marathon 2020 to help raise funds for the centre.
Based in an area of East London where over 1 in 2 children live in poverty, Fern Street offers community-based support that aims to help families in our local community live life to the full! Its work includes play and learning opportunities for little ones and their carers, fun times for older children, and support for families struggling with issues like domestic abuse, homelessnesss and mental health problems, to English classes and parenting workshops.
Fern Street is a short walk from where I live in the borough of Tower Hamlets. They reach out to a largely ethnic minority population and I'm really enjoying getting to know my local community through volunteering in small ways. I'm thankful for this opportunity to support them through this half marathon and I would absolutely love your support to get me round those 13.1 miles (26km)! Every little bit counts!
