We will establish mental health support groups around six broad areas: a depression group, a post natal depression group, a bi-polar group, a hearing voices group, an exercise and wellbeing group and a women's group. The groups will aim to combat isolation and loneliness, promote recovery and offer opportunities for a range of activities. The groups will be open to anyone who wishes to improve wellbeing, ease any form of depression or develop and share tools for self-managing distress.
Why they need our serviceIn preparation for the set up of the support groups, Joanne, one of our volunteers, is embarking on a 200 mile sponsored cycle ride to raise money for the support groups. Joanne is a truly inspiring example of how recovery is indeed possible! Please support her amazing efforts... We have raised much of the money needed for this 3 year project (largely thanks to the Henry Smith Charity). We are seeking to raise an additional £2000 to help meet some of the 3 year shortfall we have.
Plan and expected resultsWe hope the support groups will provide opportunities for people to overcome the impact of stigma and discrimination, and to benefit from a stronger social network. The groups will provide opportunities to meet people, to share experiences, to learn from others, and to join a range of activities.
