As many of you know, I volunteer with Berkshire Search and Rescue, since becoming operational December last year I can be called out day and night to search for high risk missing persons. This has involved searching for dementia sufferers, children and those who are at high risk of harming themselves. The team I am now a part of is 100% voluntary and 100% self-funded.
On the 20th July I am running a 10km stretcher run around the Look Out in Bracknell to raise money to continue the search and rescue service. We need £12,000 pounds a year just to ensure we can be operational 24/7 365 days a year to attend searches.
The stretcher carry on the 20th July 2013 is the first in a campaign to raise funds to develop future lifesaving services of search and rescue in Berkshire in particular a flood rescue service. The teams fundraising target is £32,000 which is needed to purchase flood rescue suits, decontamination and drying facilities, safety & rescue equipment, rescue boat & a trailer.
