On 10th August 2014, I will participating in the 14-kilometre Bridge to Bridge Swim in the River Thames. The route runs downstream from Henley to Marlow which, if you are someone for whom London is the centre of the universe, is roughly equivalent to swimming from Westminster Bridge to Woolwich, but in water that tastes a little less like sewage and jet fuel!
I work in Islington and wanted to keep my fundraising local to the area, so I have chosen an Archway-based organisation called SLOW, a weekly support group for bereaved parents. SLOW is a small organisation but has a big impact. It does not attract a huge amount of funding, so the money I raise could make a massive difference. If I reach my target of £1,000, it will not only help keep this vital lifeline running, but could also assist in the running of sibling support workshops for children grieving the loss of brothers and sisters. More information on SLOW can be found by clicking the icon at the bottom of this page.
For more information on the event itself, go to www.henleyswim.com/bridge-to-bridge. I am aiming to finish in under 4 hours and based on my previous swimming times, I am likely to be drafted into the ‘Gold Pod’, which means I have to keep up a decent pace or risk having to get out and wait for the slower swimmers to come along. Those of you that know me will be aware that it is not in my nature to permit something like this to happen, and you therefore have my assurances that I will be finishing in a time – and a much depreciated physical state - worthy of your hard-earned cash.
Thank you for your generosity.
