WHAT WE’RE DOING
In 2015 Teen Talk’s youth forum Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA) will be holding a number of events to raise funds. The young people have chosen to donate the funds they raise in two ways:
1. To The HIYA Fund
Our own fund that allows us to continue to run events and campaigns for the local Harwich community.
2. To The Pioneer Sailing Trust
Hundreds of young people benefit from their time at Pioneer Sailing Trust each year, whether on a sailing adventure, work experience in the boat yard, or an Apprenticeship. Find out more at pioneerck18.org
WHO WE ARE
HIYA is Teen Talk’s volunteer youth forum. We are a group of 11-21 year olds in Harwich who want to make a difference in our community and improve the image of young people. We do this by organising local events including the Harwich Hoody Festival and running campaigns such as our one with ITV Fixers to raise awareness of the dangers of energy drinks. With Teen Talk’s support HIYA can not only help us to make a difference in our community but also provide an opportunity for local young people to develop skills in event planning, promotion, administration, team work and confidence.
COMPLETED EVENTS
Sponsored Sleepover at the Redoubt Fort:
We set ourselves the spooky challenge of spending one night in April at the Redoubt, a Napoleonic Fort built c.1810. With its dark corridors, cold stone walls and 200 years of history this was not a challenge for the faint hearted!
Bag Packing:
Throughout the year we've worked with local supermarkets to pack bags for their customers and raise funds.
Bake Sale:
Homemade cakes and biscuits have been sold to help us reach our fundraising target.
We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout our fundraising!
