We are aiming to deliver 4 weeks of holiday study support to 16 to 18 children aged 9 to 11 years as they approach transition to secondary school. Each weeks activities is a mix of academic work, with other activities to develop life skills, such as team work, cultural awareness, healthy and safe living. In the past these have included museum visits, the Police and Fire stations, canoeing, computer skills, and using photography to develop stories during drama sessions, music and sport coaching.
Why they need our serviceThis project is aimed at giving those children currently under acheiving some extra targeted support to help raise their confidence and self esteem in the class room and in social situations, thereby helping them to raise their academic standards and perform to the best of their ability.
Plan and expected resultsThe children settle back into school better as they have had some structured input during the holiday, enabling them to start the new school term with extra confidence and knowledge , enabling them to perform to the best of their ability. They also develop better social skills through working outside of their normal peer group, with children from other schools. We would expect them to acheive higher than their previously predicted results at the end of key stage 2.
