To open up a late Georgian Ice Well for public viewing. The well has been blocked up since the 1950s, and forgotten. To recreate the late Georgian confectionery which would have existed in the basement at the time of opening of the Royal Victoria Arcade, in July 1836.
Why they need our serviceThis internal, integral, commercial ice well may be unique in the British Isles, and therefore of national importance. It represents a way of life which has been completely forgotten, and offers something totally different for Ryde and the Isle of Wight. Only one other Georgian confectionery open to the public exists in the UK, in Syon House.
Plan and expected resultsOnce the true rarity of the Ice Well has been established, this could have far-reaching consequences for tourism and heritage on the Isle of Wight.
