On Sunday 9th September I will attempt to complete the Great North Run half marathon in aid of Local Mencap Barnsley, a wonderful local charity in Barnsley which supports adults with learning disabilities. Local Mencap Barnsley is a small, completely independent charity affiliated to Royal Mencap by way of mission to advance equality for people with learning disabilities. It is often assumed that they are well resourced due to the connection with a national charity, however in fact Local Mencap Barnsley is a completely independent charity and are governed by local people and raise all their funds to deliver local projects.
Local Mencap Barnsley is really close to my heart as my brother has learning disabilities and he benefits from the services that Local Mencap Barnsley provide.
We have a small intrepid team of three fellow runners including Colin Webb, Sam Hardy and Tim Hobbs.
The objective is to raise money to outfit a new sensory room at Compass House, our new building, with all of the latest equipment and facilities. One key piece of equipment is a mobile projection unit which costs £7,000 and I am trying to raise £2,000 towards this. I would really appreciate any contribution however small which you can make.
Please help me to raise the money for Local Mencap Barnsley by hitting the ‘Donate Now’ button and entering your sponsorship. Thanks for supporting me and helping Local Mencap Barnsley.
