I work for Gendered Intelligence, an organisation that supports young trans people. This summer, Gendered Intelligence is taking over 200 young people aged 11-25 camping. On Saturday 19th of May I am running Hackney 5k to raise money for trans youth camp! This is a big deal for me as I haven't run that far since the thoroughly unpleasant experience of asthmatic school cross country in 1998.
The climate for trans people has become increasingly hostile over the past year, so this is a great opportunity to show your support for young trans people. Also, you are probably extending my life by at least 6 months with this cardio.
Young trans and gender diverse people can find it really difficult to take part in physical and outdoor activities as changing and other facilities are often gendered. Your support would help us provide a safe space where they can be themselves and try new activities.
Who is Gendered Intelligence?
Gendered Intelligence works with the trans community and all those who impact on trans lives and specialises in supporting young trans people 8-25. Our vision is of a world where people are no longer constrained by narrow perceptions and expectations of gender, and where diverse gender expressions are visible and valued.
What's the money for?
Every year, Gendered Intelligence runs Summer camps for young trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender questioning people aged 11-25. This year is GI's 10th birthday and we’re celebrating by making camp supersized!
Super-Camp will involve taking 180 young people aged 18-25 camping for five days in August. Alongside Super-Camp we’ll be running an Under-18-Camp for 35 young people, going on a trip for four days in July 2018.
