This Friday, I am going to be sleeping rough in Wycombe Churchyard, in support of Wycombe Homeless Connection. It's going to be freezing!
WHC is a charity that one of my closest friends, Jess Wray, has been volunteering with for a number of years and therefore very close to my heart.
Through the work I have seen Jess undertake, I have learnt a great deal about how this fantastic charity helps to get people off the street on some of the coldest winter nights.
WHC runs a night shelter Jan-March feeding up to 12 people every night who would otherwise on the street. It is thanks to the dedicated and selfless work of their volunteers that this is possible. The charity does not advertise, use chuggers, or donor lists and all donations go directly to helping people off the street.
In addition to the night shelter, WHC offers support and advice for those who need it crucially - including those who are at risk of losing their home.
I think it's really easy for all of us to forget how lucky we are to have family and friends close by that are able to take us in, if and when we ever find ourselves without somewhere to stay. Be it in-between tenancies - for a few days or a few weeks (if you are like me and have moved house about six times in three years..) - it's something we all take for granted.
So many people are not as fortunate - and it is thanks to the work of charities such as WHC that they are able to access shelter, shower facilities and advice on how to get off the streets.
I would really appreciate any donations.. :-)
