Sunshine & Smiles is a registered charity that provides a support network in Leeds for children and young people who have Down syndrome and their families.
Until it was founded by a small group of parents, Leeds did not have a support network to help children and families living with Down syndrome. Sunshine & Smiles fulfils this important need and provides a vital role in the community.
The charity is parent led and is overseen by a team of four trustees. They have four paid workers – a service manager and three support workers.
I became aware of Sunshine and Smiles when I was asked to do some music workshops with a parent and baby group. I also did a ukulele session with their teenagers.
Since then, Roundhay Ukulele Group have had the pleasure of playing with Sunshine and Smiles at various fundraising events around Leeds. Now I am excited to be running the Leeds 10K to help raise vital funds to keep them doing the important work they do!
I am a relatively new runner and run because it makes me feel good in my mind and my body. I am not fast and I am not chasing a specific time... just the fact I can run 10K without stopping is a huge achievement for me!
Please spare what you can!
