I started running this year and, after some initial hiccups, managed to complete the Couch to 5k and do a couple of Parkruns. Once I can do something I usually try to go one better, so after a few cocktails this weekend I decided I would enter the Bangor 10k on 29th September.
I'm terrified! Running in front of people is a bit of a nightmare for me. So to give me a goal to make sure I get there, I've decided to raise money for my favourite charity. I've managed the distance in training so barring injury or illness, I'll be on that startline.
Street Soccer NI uses football as a hook to engage people who have become detached from their community due to homelessness, addiction, mental health issues, refugee status and other issues. Bringing local services from these areas to take part in the sessions means Street Soccer can introduce people to the channels they need to improve their lives in an informal way.
I've seen first hand what a huge impact their work has on their participants. It's a small, locally run charity therefore all donations will really pull their weight in getting things done.
Thank you!
