I am fundraising for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity which was founded in 2011 by Mike Davies MBE, following his long term desire to help children who are disadvantaged. Together with a group of employees from Principle Healthcare, he decided to form a charity that could provide respite holidays for disadvantaged children and their families.
On Saturday 5th May 2018 I will be dressed in jockey silks and racing at Skipton Races in the first race of the day, The Principle Trust Charity Race. The race is 1.5 miles of galloping and I will be racing a full Irish Draught, Fearghal round the course. Not built like Thoroughbred horses, this is quite an undertaking to get both of us fit enough to compete safely, and we are already putting in lots of training!
The aim of this charity is to improve the quality of life for young children and their families. The children the charity help could be disadvantaged socially, physically, emotionally or as a result of extreme poverty or illness and are supported through the provision of exciting seaside breaks. A holiday or respite break is proven to have a profoundly positive effect on the health and well-being of a child and their family or carer.
As adults, many of you countdown to your summer holidays to recharge your batteries. But they can also be a profoundly beneficial time for children for a number of reasons. Using the brain’s PLAY and SEEKING systems encourages cognitive functioning, social intelligence and well-focused, goal-directed behaviours that may last a lifetime, especially for children who have little experience of play outside the confines of their own hospital or home, or those who have learning difficulties or behavioural problems.
Any support for the charity would be greatly appreciated. Even if you are encouraged to support just at the thought of my long-suffering husband Ryan being handler on the day and leading my horse round the parade ring!
