On Midsummer's night, Saturday 21 June, I am taking part in an all-night swim event at the Lido in Bristol to raise money for the Square Food Foundation. I can't promise to swim all night, but I'm going to swim as many lengths of the pool as I can, before being fished out!
The Square Food Foundation is a social enterprise based in Knowle West in Bristol. They believe that cooking can change lives. They teach people from all walks of life to cook good food from scratch. For instance, they teach primary and secondary school pupils (and their mums and dads), including children with behavioural and learning difficulties; they provide training for care home cooks; and they teach a local Downs Syndrome support group. For the past year they have also provided a cookery course for women trapped in street sex work, for whom a weekly cooking session adds stability to their otherwise fragmented lives. They also run a cooking class and lunch club for elderly men and women who live alone and rely on weekly Square Food Foundation sessions for a chance to chat to others and have a hot and nutritious meal.
Sponsoring me on this swim will help them continue their great work.
