I registered to run the Hackney Half Marathon on 17th May to raise funds for Keen London, the  charity I volunteer with. Briefly, we put on sports, fun and games, with one to one coaching, for young athletes with disabilities on a weekly basis at 3 centres, during the school term. We take them to various activities   as well as two residential trips per year ( Easter trip cancelled this year due to Covid 19) outside term time. Weekly and other sessions have continued during  the lockdown via zoom. - I’ve succeeded in joining several Saturday sessions  so far. Tell you what, have a look at their website www.keenlondon.org for more information.
Keen London rely heavily on money raised by runners in Hackney Half each year for funding. The race has been postponed to May 2021   but like most charities which suffered from the cancellation of the London Marathon and other similar events, funds are still needed.
I and other KeenLondon volunteers ran  the half- marathon distance 13.2 miles  over our own courses, on the 16th or 17th May. I used the Wanstead Flats Parkrun course, which was really boring except for when I was dodging dogs and bad social distancers. Other volunteers channelled Captain Tom and Mr Chaudhary by doing stuff at home. The Hackney Half is one big lap.
I completed the run with family support AT A SOCIAL DISTANCE- especially my grandsons, Kamal who paced me most excellently for two laps, and Shia and Zakai on refuelling duties.
I finished in 1:46:20 then discovered that I had run 160metres too far. No wonder I could only manage 1 burpee!
Big thanks to those who came out on the day, all those who have sponsored me so far and all who might want to sponsor me. All welcome and please pass it on! You’re all stars!!
The kids love you!
Thanks
Keith / Keithly ( either one will do if you’re sponsoring me)
