Keen is an amazing charity for disabled children, providing them with a safe space to play with children like themselves with no judgement. At each session the children are paired with a trained volunteer coach for individual support. This means they benefit from one-to-one attention and care. It also means their parents can leave their children in a secure and safe environment.
We adopted Maisie (our daughter) when she was 1, she is now 9, Maisie has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome among other conditions. Maisie has been desperate to join hobbies but most don't cater for children of her needs and its just never worked out, whether it be that her peers don't understand what is wrong with her and she is then left out or the adults running the clubs aren't trained to deal with Maisie's needs and so they lack understanding of how to care for her or approach situations that arise correctly. KEEN is different, they just know exactly what Maisie needs and she comes home with a spring in her step and we can relax while she is there knowing that she is with a group of people that she feels 'part of' and she doesn't stand out.
Congratulations and a super human effort to you both in the circumstances!
Very best of luck..
