Hestia's 3 domestic violence refuges in Kingston provide 45 women a year and their children with a safe place to live during a stressful time in their lives. Hestia also provides a floating support service to 40 men and women each year in Kingston who are experiencing domestic abuse, giving them on-going support and someone to turn to in case of emergency. Hestia supports women and children living in the refuges to rebuild their lives and move on, more resilient than before.
Why they need our serviceDomestic violence is one of the biggest issues affecting British society. 1 in 4 women will experience at least one incident of domestic violence during her lifetime. Women who flee domestic violence to live in a refuge often leave behind everything, including extended family, friends, possessions, jobs and security. Women who cannot find a space in refuge face a stark choice between homelessness and destitution, or remaining with an abusive partner.
Plan and expected resultsHestia support women in the refuges to deal with the emotional and practical results of domestic violence. Women are supported by a caseworker who helps them with emotional support; pratical issues such as applying for benefits; help with immigration and legal issues; help finding independent accomodation and support to find employment. Children are also supported to be happy and healthy. Women and chidlren move on from our refuges stronger and more resilient than when they arrived.
