My mum, Kirsten and I have given ourselves the challenge to walk the distance of Lands end to John O'Groats. It is 874 in total starting from the 23RD November 2020 and have a year to finish it. We have chosen to raise money for charity as well. The charity we have chosen is Huntington's Disease Association Northern Ireland because its a charity close to home. My step sister Ashley has been involved with the charity for 10 years and her Father, Dessie has suffered from the condition for 14 years. At the age of only 54, he is in the later stages of the disease, happily living in a nursing home close to the family. I myself didn't know the disease that well until I have seen first hand how devastating it can affect your family. As of yet, there is no cure but there are human drug trials happening around the world that will bring hope to HD families.
Mum and I have never done anything like this before, especially mum - she isn't keen on walking so she might as well try and help others while challenging herself.

We understand that it is a difficult time right now and we would appreciate any donations small or large. We just would really like to give something back to those who have suffered this year.

What is Huntington's Disease (HD)?
HD is an inherited disease with symptoms, usually starting at mid-adulthood, causing a progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24-hour care. Every child conceived naturally to a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. There are over 150 families affected by HD in Northern Ireland and currently no cure. The easiest way to describe HD is Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and MS all rolled into one.
