My name is Leah Cannings and I am raising money to start-up an ethical fashion project to reduce consumer waste and to benefit the local community in Frome.
I will be joining Edventure (www.edventurefrome.org) as a student this September and will learn new skills through spending 10 weeks setting up this community enterprise.
Edventure Frome runs free courses helping young adults to move towards livelihoods that matter to them.
As some of you know, I have been struggling with an eating disorder for many years and am going through recovery and I'm happy to say that this is another step forward, for creativity, for communication and for education. My Art teacher once told me to climb the mountain and to step on each little stepping stone one at a time, so here goes... A stepping stone to my future. I want to help others and focus (especially teenagers who are coping with mental health) on recovery. Helping those eat better; to put good food in your body to help support and educate that food is your friend. I want to encourage everyone to love their body (me too, I'm still doing that) and to acknowledge our own individual loveliness!
To help fund my place, my aim is to raise £100-£200 initially by baking yummy, scrummy vegan goodies for you to buy as well as the traditional family favourites like my Mumma's Lemon Drizzle cake and my sister's delicious Victoria Sponge! I will keep you posted as to when and where my cake sale will be.
My dream is to have my own business which concentrates on sustainable, ethical living which would provide locally sourced products and provide a community space to enjoy and support each other regardless of age. I would also like to provide information and education to encourage an ethical lifestyle that is affordable for everyone.
