Learning in Partnership aims to raise awareness and increase knowledge of social and health-related issues, equipping people to support each other in their own communities. This is done in two main ways; 1-day events on health-related and social topics and the Effective Listening Skills course, enhancing the listening skills of those who wish to be better able to support others in their own communities, places of work or neighbourhoods. Both are made easily accessible to all who wish to attend.

Why they need our service

There are numerous things which adversely affect people in society; health-related issues such as dementia, physical disability or mental health problems or social issues including addictions. In addition, financial difficulties and relational problems can have a negative impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals and families. The Learning in Partnership Project increases awareness of these issues, and helps equip people to listen to, and support each other in their own communities.

Plan and expected results

To date our events have been held in Durham City and Chester-le-Street. We are seeking funding to deliver them in other parts of the county, working with local groups, particularly in places of high unemployment and poverty. We expect each additional event to be a forum for listening, sharing and learning; providing local groups and people with the opportunity to make relevant contacts and learn new skills so they are better equipped to support each other in their own communities.
