In January Westbourne Park Family Centre is setting up a new project Called LEGIT
LEGIT has been birthed out of the local need to bridge the gap for young people aged 11-19 years that are marginalised and excluded and at risk.
There is an increasing need for the young people, who are on the fringes of society and engaging in criminal activities. Over several years we have seen young people within the local estates engaged in criminal activities and making a living from selling drugs. Many have shared that they have no other opportunities accessible to them.Yet they display a lot of skill, knowledge and an ability.
We are seeking funding to set up a 40 week Youth Enterprise Hub for young people aged 11 to 19 years to support them to use their skills to generate a legal income. Delivering face to face sessions to young people training them and setting up a Youth Enterprise Hub supporting young people to develop and implement business ideas in their local area. The workshops will be practical in nature and will allow the young People to explore business ideas, researching then and running pilots.
Throughout the programme young adults will be able to hear inspiration stories of others who has successfully set up their own businesses in the local area as well as those who has been working successfully self - employed. This project will be a life line to the youth in our local community who no longer think it is impossible to get out of the cycle of criminality and who as a result find themselves disconnected and marginalised.
