We are trying to raise funds to enable us to refurbish the residential block at school, turning them from what resemble nursing homes to young, hip and relevant for our children. We are doing this with the help and support of Alsop High School and the London Virgin Marathon. Each of our runners are trying to raise upto £6k which will enable us to purchase some much needed equipment such as sofas, kitchen equipment, new flooring and even a spruce up in the communal bathrooms.
Why they need our serviceThe community within St Vincent's is extremely close, all the children and their families can relate to one another here. They are the majority and not the minority. Our residential blocks provide not only home Monday to Friday for some pupils but also respite for some local children and their families. We have a home from home ethos here at St Vincent's and we would love for that to be reflected in the surroundings.
Plan and expected resultsImproving our facilities for one would make our children extremely happy, the decisions of colour schemes, furniture and equipment etc will all be discussed with the children and so they will for the first time have an input to the area they call home, creating ownership and independence. It also makes the process of leaving your child behind that little bit easier for parents, knowing they are staying in a fun, warm, welcoming environment that they have helped to create.
