At the age of 14 I feel lucky to have an opportunity to take on the Three Peaks challenge. I am hoping to use this opportunity to raise money for Project 28 - a part of the Developing Health and Independence charity. Project 28 seek to provide care to young people in the BANES area with problematic substance misuse support needs. The overall ethos behind the project is to provide a physical space in which young people want to spend time and can then access a range of services. My uncle died due to cancer six years ago. He got the disease from chewing betel, excessive smoking, and drinking from a very young age. He was diagnosed with mouth cancer and by then could not be saved. My uncle could still be alive if there had been someone who could have advised him about the ill effects of drugs and alcohol. I feel that charities like Project 28 make a difference not only in the lives of people with substance misuse habits but also in the lives of their friends and family. I hope that funds I raise will help young people to break their substance misuse habits and so improve their lives and the lives of those around them.
