Sea Cadets aims to help all young people find a path in life. The unit at Port Talbot assists local youngsters aged 10-18# to gain qualifications in so many different subjects.
They have a strong regime of Teamwork, with Cadets helping others to improve abilities and skills.
Through the summer months the cadets take part in all sorts of water sports.
Rowing, sailing, canoeing help to give enjoyment and fun while improving fitness
and stamina.
Belonging to a unit develops self-esteem, pride and social skills.
The cadets develop a sense of belonging and commitment, supporting each other through challenges.
We want to support this by raising money to help with the maintenance of the buildings. Port Talbot unit is a charity which makes an incredible difference to the cadets who attend, but have to fund raise for every single thing they do - the rent, the fuel bills and everything else.
Subs are kept to a minimum, to allow those with deprived backgrounds and all abilities to be involved as much as possible.
Our son Luke joined Port Talbot Sea Cadets in the spring. Since then he has attended a course in Meteorology, had First Aid training, learned how to row, to sail and how to be a Coxswain. He hopes to cox for the junior boys in the District rowing competition.
The cadets regularly undertake activities to raise money to keep the unit running. They also raise funds for other charities and good causes in the locality whenever they are able.
Luke, Lee and myself (Lisa) wanted to do this Aberavon Candy Inflatable Run together as a different way of raising money, and to give support to the Parents & Supporters committee who are currently working towards raising money for new boilers.
