Next month I’ll be joining the 100K in May challenge to try and raise some money for a charity incredibly close to my heart. We Get It have offered support in some of the darkest of times and for that I’ll be eternally grateful.
This May the We Get It team pull on their trainers and run, walk or cycle 100k to raise awareness. All funds go towards supporting local people dealing with cancer, through goodie bags, socials, and special community events.
In June 2020 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I had absolutely no risk factors, just a chance finding of anaemia at my routine blood test after my 40th birthday. Due to COVID I faced delayed tests and many reassurances I was fine. It was only when I was admitted to A&E with a bowel obstruction that my cancer was finally diagnosed.
As a 40 year old mum of 4 young children this completely blew our world apart. Within a week I’d had an operation to remove the whole right side of my bowel, I then went on to have 6 months of CAPOX chemotherapy which I completed in January 2021. During this time We Get It has provided support and access to a community of people all living life and dealing with cancer.
I now find myself post treatment trying to readjust to the new normal of life after cancer, life lived with the constant fear of a recurrence and uncertainty about what the future holds.
It’s an absolutely honour to run, walk or cycle 100k in May to raise money for this fantastic charity that continue to support so many of us when we truly need it. Thank you We Get It.
