I'm doing a little 5K park run in Derry on Saturday the 22nd March. It's not the longest run there is, it's no marathon (I'll save that for another time!) but it does mean a lot to me personally. I'm hoping to be able to raise some funds for Little Orchids Children's Centre, a charity that has become very important to our family.
Little Orchids is a therapeutic centre providing intervention and support for children with additional needs. The centre is a charitable organisation and relies on funding and donations. I can't imagine not having this facility around for families of children with additional needs. The centre and the staff have been an absolute blessing to us.
Our daughter Evie was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder 2 years ago. Evie attends Little Orchids & has made great strides of progress since starting there in September. She has become more independent & more willing to try new things. It's amazing to see. She gets to experience everything that all pre-school age children experience but with a high level of structure and support which gives her that confidence of knowing what to expect next. The staff are supportive, caring & nurturing and have given our family help and advice when we've needed it most. They are amazing and what they do is amazing.
