Sussex Nightstop would like to provide longer term placements for young people, allowing young people to stay with a host for up to 3 weeks, rather than for a few nights. This would allow young people the time necessary to arrange their longer term housing. Sussex Nightstop would like to provide a payment to the hosts for providing longer term placements and require funding for this.
Why they need our serviceThere is a lack of emergency housing for young people in the City, waiting lists for supported housing (hostels) and a lack of affordable private rented accommodation.
Plan and expected resultsDuring their time in Nightstop, young people would engage with housing advice workers at the YMCA or housing options workers at the Council, as well as other services relevant to their situation and needs. Providing longer term placements would prevent young people from sofa surfing, rough sleeping and putting themselves in other vulnerable positions. Young people would be provided with support and advice around moving on from Nightstop.
