Since around 27th/28th December I have done what I can (around working a full time job) to help out with the aftermath of the floods since 26th December.
I've done a couple of security shifts to try and stop looters targetting the businesses, homes and vehicles of those affected. I've also been going to Elphaborough Close - where an amazing, volunteer-led hub has been set up to support the elderly and vunerable persons who either had to be evacuated from their homes on Boxing Day or who have suffered in the aftermath since. At this hub I've been serving teas, coffes and soups etc and helping people complete grant forms and just giving them a bit of company when sometimes that's all that they need.
More locally, as I live in Leeds, members from my amazing Slimming World groups (from Tingley, Morley, Gildersome, Churwell and Woodkirk) have been donating various things - from cash donations, clothing, kids toys, baby items, SYNS and other things either to be donated directly to the people affected or to be sold to raise funds - something which I'm currently in the process of arranging now. Oh also, the lovely folk of Morley and surrounding have been donating goods too for the cause.
Despite all of this, and collaborating with work to raise extra money and my union, I still think there's more that I could do - as some of these people have lost everything!!
I've always been known to be a bit vain when it comes to my hair...although it isn't overly long in length it is ridiculously curly...I'm aware I'm going to look like a female version of Uncle Fester from the Adams Family whilst my hair is shaved, but what's the cost of vanity hun?!
If I can raise £500.00 between now and 13/03/2016 I shall shave my hair off for the victims of the Calder floods and look like an absolute idiot until my hair grows back, lol.
The more I raise, up to £1,000, my company will match...so please, dig deep as I want to reach out to as many people as I possibly can xx
