Love2Grow, 8 week project of growing and cooking workshops for young people aged 11 - 14 years old. This will be delivered in partnership with the Buckskin and Worting Community Centre.
Why they need our serviceIn this area of Basingstoke, families are suffering in the recession. The unemployment rate here is higher than the national average in England and this has had an impact on family life. A lot of the young people eat a lot of junk food and they themselves have asked for this programme, particularly the cooking workshops. We are going to combine the two in this 'field to fork' project to encourage them to eat more healthy foods.
Plan and expected resultsWe will have 12 young people more confident in their own abilities, able to cook 4 main meals and make 4 desserts, more positive attitude to food and eating more healthly. They will increase their knowledge of planting, composting and growing food. The young people will develop a sense of responsibility and work as part of a team to achieve a goal.
