Lucas is running 10km in memory of his sister
Lucas (aged 10) is running 10km in memory of his sister, Esme As many of you already know Lucas’s little sister, Esme, died as a result of a tragic hospital blunder when she was nearly 2 years old in July 2010. Esme was an amazing sister to Lucas, she really loved him and my enduring memory is her running after him trying to steal kisses, usually planting them on the back of his head. We all miss her so much and are heartbroken to be living without her. Lucas was nearly 4 years old when Esme died and was extremely traumatised by her death. Jason and I had spent 11 weeks caring for Esme in Great Ormond Street Hospital before she died and he rarely saw us during this period. After she died Lucas (only just 4) had to start school, it wasn’t an easy time. He was scared that I would die while he was at school so for 8 weeks I went up to the school for lunch to reassure him. Soon after Esme’s death Jason and I found a local bereavement support group called SLOW (Surviving the Loss of Your World). The charity has a simple concept – it’s a bereavement group run by bereaved parents for bereaved parents and their surviving children. SLOW has been a lifeline for our family – Jason and I have both been to countless support groups and Lucas has been a regular participant of their sibling workshops (SLOWsibs). The SLOWsibs group has been really supportive for Lucas. He’s met lots of other kids that have lost their brothers or sisters and he also gets to make amazing creations, often in Esme’s memory. So now to say thank you to SLOW, my little 10 year old (and his Dad) are going to run 10km (yes - a ten year old doing 10km!) on Sunday 8th January 2017 at Regent’s Park to raise money in Esme’s memory so that the charity can continue to help others that have been through the worst thing in the world. Please please support him Thank you Jason, Kelly, Lucas and Violet
10k is unbelievable. Way to go Lucas
