Lucky Break is a community-led project providing young people with the tools to change their own lives. By matching young people with volunteer mentors from the local community, Lucky Break helps vulnerable and at-risk young people make smooth transitions into work and learning opportunities.

Why they need our service

Over the last decade, the number of NEET young people (not in Education, Employment or Training) in England has reached record levels, and youth unemployment is now three times the national average. The recession has hit young people harder than any other group, with fewer employment prospects and increased risk of poverty, and in Berkshire there are currently almost 1,295 NEET young people aged 16-18.

Plan and expected results

The aim of Lucky Break is to see NEET young people engage in productive mentoring relationships which increase their self-confidence, raise their aspirations and empower them to be the best they can be. Ultimately we aim to see all our mentees progress into education, employment or training, to enable them to make an ongoing, positive contribution to their communities as they progress into adult life.
