On Sunday 10th September, I will take part in the Great North Run.
As most of you know, my natural 'sporting' activities consist of extreme shopping & napping, with some occasional dog walking - I'm not a runner and this is genuinely a really big challenge for me!
I will be running the 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields to raise funds and awareness for ESCAPE Family Support, which is based in Blyth and I am determined to complete the race for this great charity!
ESCAPE Family Support was founded by Janet Murphy MBE in 1995, following the tragic death of her 16 year old daughter Jennie, which was caused by drugs. Following her own loss, Janet realised that there was no support network in Northumberland for those affected by drugs, and she set out to change this.
ESCAPE currently provides the only specialist service for carers and families of substance users in the area, as well as those bereaved by substance misuse.
It works to reduce the impact of substance misuse and improve the health, well-being and safety of individuals, families and the local community, supporting those affected to access recovery and realise their potential.
I would like to raise £220 for ESCAPE Family support and any donations, great or small, would be massively appreciated by both myself and the charity :)
Wish me luck!
Lucy
