Team Fundraisers

In summer 2018 thirty Scouts and their leaders from Hertfordshire, will travel to Swaziland. For two weeks the Scouts will toil in the African heat to help build the Youth Centre. These Scouts will have spent 18 months fundraising to ship a container, their travel, living costs and the costs of materials for the building. They will work in partnership with the Malibeni community to build walls, plaster walls, lay floors and construct the roof.

Why they need our service

Malibeni Youth Centre will form the basis for a long term sustainable project that gives the local young people of Swaziland the opportunity to learn new skills such as, tyre fitting, mechanics, sewing and agriculture. These local young people will then use the skills learned to help provide sustainable employment for them, and their families, and improve the long term quality of life.

Plan and expected results

The project won't be built overnight but working together is achievable. Hertfordshire Scouts travel to the project every couple of years. In 2014 they helped fence the site and work together, visiting every two years, arriving with funding and materials vital for the project. In 2016 the Scouts and Swazi Rover Scouts finished the foundations. When the Scouts leave Swaziland in 2018 they plan to have the building constructed and ready to be fitted out (the next project in two years time!)
