This is Kirk's story. I am a single parent dad living in Kingston with my son aged 9. Life has been tough because of housing. I’ve never had a secure home for me and my boy. So making him feel secure and confident has been an extra struggle. In June 2014 we were invited to a MAN&BOY adventure camp that concentrated on praise and encouragement and has made a real difference to us. The way the group focused on positive encouragement and activities that required working together promoted a need for mutual trust and responsibility. Since the camp I have noticed that my son is a lot happier and seems more confident and he’s satisfied and doesn’t feel he needs to prove himself and can spend more time being himself. I really felt I wanted to put something into MAN&BOY as what they gave me and my son is priceless. I feel what MAN&BOY does for a child is really special. My son has recently got a bike and I thought it would be a good idea to do a sponsored cycle ride with him. We will be riding around Richmond Park (Kingston Gate) on Saturday 12 July 2014 starting at 10am. Please come and join us and raise some money or sponsor us using the localgiving website. You can watch a 2-minute interview with me on www.manandboy.org
